I was recently a part of a road trip from Delhi to Nepal (Kathmandu) organised by Scout My Trip and OYO Rooms. We were travelling a distance of 2500 kilometers in seven days. With a team of eight people in two cars comprising six bloggers and two captains (as we called them during the trip) – co-founders from Scout My Trip this truly was one of the most epic road trips I have ever been on!
Our first stop was in the land of Nawabs – Lucknow and the only thing on our mind was to devour the ever famous Galaouti Kebabs. To my surprise, kebabs weren’t the only thing that we tried and fell in love with. We hopped from one place to another to have some of the most amazing street food in Lucknow. If you too happen to go to Lucknow for a short while then we tell you what all you need to gorge on.
We began our food trail at the iconic Tunday Kababi. Choosing from a vast menu we zeroed on to ordering Mutton Biryani, Tunday Mutton Galauti Kebabs, Chicken Boti Kebabs, Mutton Kebabs and Sheermal which is a sweet bread. Tunday Mutton Galauti Kebab was delicious and that will always take me back to this place.
After eating at Tundey Kababi, while we were still in Aminabad, across the street was Prakash Kulfi. We all went ahead and called for Kulfi Falooda. I’m not a kulfi person at all so I refused to take a separate one for myself but I took a bite from a friend and ended up finishing his kulfi! The kulfi was that good. Prakash Kulfi also offers sugar free kulfi for people with diabetics and you won’t be able to tell the difference between the kulfi with sugar and without as they equally taste delicious!
Next on our list was to have basket chaat from Royal Cafe. On reaching the cafe, basket chaat was not the only thing that we had as the ‘Chaat King’ (the man who makes chaat at the cafe is fondly known as the chaat king) had sent all kinds of chaat on our table. We also got to try gol gappe that were crunchy and delicious. If you are a chaat lover then you cannot miss this place.
Ending our day with heavy dinner for the next day we planned on going to Chhappan Bhog to have Lucknowi style breakfast which is Bedmi Aloo and Jalebi. Everything in the store was so tempting that we ended up ordering for dhokla and a few Indian sweets as well!
We couldn’t have missed visiting Sharma Ji’s Tea Stall in the city. So we slurped the hot piping tea with bun maska and samosa.
Before leaving for Gorakhpur, we made a quick stop at Chaurasia Paan Bandaar and got a meetha paan packed.
Lucknow truly is a foodie’s paradise both for vegetarians and non vegetarians. We stayed in the city for almost 24 hours and tried our best to make the most of it. We managed to visit these famous food spots in the city and loved every bit of it.
